The most important thing is teach every family member, “A place for everything, and everything in its place.” That was the rule when I was growing up, and I still do it. If one child takes down a box of cereal and leaves it on the counter, another takes off his shoes and socks leaving them in the living room floor, etc it won’t be long before the house is a disaster. Just don’t put anything down where it doesn’t belong.
All I know for sure is some people are made for tidiness and organizing. Others are more the creative kind of messy kind of people. And sometimes people are just not tidy at all. I suggest you find out which one you are and learn to love that person because I beat myself up so many times because I just was never able to be Martha Stewart, and my family are pigs.
Pick your battles and realize that nobody wants to have written on her tombstone ” wow, she was a really great housekeeper ”
